TUESDAY, APRIL 27, 2021

(The first full day of the conference)

Opening General Session (9 am – 11.45 am)

DWHSA Executive Director Lisa Sheldon and Cheryl Bailey (Yellow Umbrella Events – Austin, Texas) will lead a very special “unconference” session that will have you on your feet (socially distanced!) making connections and trading ideas with other romance travel advisers just like you. We can’t reveal more details yet – but, we believe DWHSA is the first North American travel trade association to do this, and you’ll leave this sessions with lots of ideas to grow your business once you return home.

Lunch on your own (12 noon – 2 pm)

You can check voicemails and emails – and catch your breath! – in one of the resort’s restaurants or in your room with room service. Also, you may use the conference’s mobile app to pair off with suppliers and fellow advises for lunch if you wish.

“Romance Travel Reboot” Seminars (2 pm – 5 pm)

We’ll divide into smaller groups for a full afternoon of practical hands-on training geared specifically to the size of your romance travel business (up to $250,000 in annual bookings, $250,000-$750,000 in annual sales, or more than $750,000 on the books). Before the conference, you’ll receive handouts to complete about your own business. Then, this afternoon, we’ll use guided discussions and roundtables to help you focus on the critical steps for “relaunching” your business despite the pandemic!

Up to $250,000 (led by Lisa Sheldon)

    • Building your lists beyond your initial set of clients (once you’ve sold family and friends, where do you go from there to get clients?)
    • Creating a simple weekly system to feed your online marketing (both free content such as blog posts and paid content such as FB ads)
    • Setting up the back-office systems, from CRMs to accounting software, so you can manage multiple bookings at once
    • Drafting a growth plan for your business beyond the $250,000/year level

$250,000 to $750,000 (led by Cheryl Bailey)

    • Systematizing your workflows so you can handle your growing sales when you’re probably working “solo” on your own
    • Bringing on helpers (virtual assistants, contractors, part- or full-time employees) when you hit your personal limits
    • Deepening your relationships with preferred suppliers to maximize your pay as well as your influence when your clients need help
    • Nurturing those first-time bookers into lifelong romance travel clients

More than $750,000 (led by John Hawks)

    • Making the transition from working IN your business (you’re doing everything) to working ON your business (you’re managing as much as you’re selling)
    • Creating booking checklists and monitoring the key numbers in your business so you’re sure nothing falls through the cracks as your volume grows past six figures
    • Setting the direction for your future growth (e.g., will you focus on romance travel only or add helpers in other niches?)
    • Expanding your influence as a true romance travel expert (from free media to your own book, from a podcast to YouTube videos)

Dinner on your own

You may enjoy any of the available restaurants on site by yourself or with contacts you can make through the conference app.

(Once the primary conference registration period closes on Feb. 28, 2021, we’ll send you instructions for requesting these meetings with suppliers.)

Networking With Romance Travel Suppliers (2 pm – 6 pm)

The 1:1 scheduled appointments and small-group meetings with suppliers will continue this afternoon.

Dinner on your own

You’re welcome to pair off with other advisers and suppliers through the conference app – or, enjoy dinner in the open on-site restaurants or in your room.

THURSDAY, APRIL 29, 2021

(The third and final full day of the conference)

Networking With Romance Travel Suppliers (8 am – 10 am)

The 1:1 scheduled appointments and small-group meetings with suppliers will wrap up this morning.

Dominican Republic Romance Showcase (10 am – 12 noon)

Locally based D.R. vendors – excursion operators, wedding planners, florists, photographers, musicians, and others – will mingle with you from their tabletop displays before lunch.

Lunch on your own (12 noon – 2 pm)

Mastery Workshops (2 pm – 5 pm)

We’ll close the conference training with your choice of three different full-afternoon workshops (you may pick the one you prefer, but we’ll also give you the handouts and materials from all three sessions):

“The Anatomy of Destination Weddings – Step by Step”

You’ll learn the nitty-gritty steps and details of promoting, planning, and managing destination wedding bookings. We’ll walk through the 12 months or so from the initial consultation and proposal to the couples’ returns home, talking about every task you must handle and everything your couples must do to make their DWs a success.

“Build Your Social Media Presence”

You’ve got your Facebook business page and an Instagram account – now what? We’ll devote this afternoon to the practical, low-costs steps you can talk to expand your reach on social media and establish yourself as a true romance travel specialist. You’ll go home with a 90-day action plan of weekly “to dos” to keep your social media momentum going!

“Become a Romance Travel Influencer”

If you’re happy with your web site and your social media, this workshop will take you to the next level – carving out your online and offline presence as a romance travel influencer. We’ll devote this afternoon to selecting “mini niches” to drill down into, tapping into free media, creating long-form content (e.g., your own e-book as a lead magnet, not just checklists), strategic partnerships, and much more!

Farewell Dinner – Beach BBQ (6 pm – ?)

We’ll say goodbye at this special oceanfront beach BBQ celebration (sponsored by Playa Resorts)! (Note:  Depending on the Covid-19 preventative measures in place in late April 2021, we may need to convert this farewell event into an indoors dinner.)
